November 2, 2020, Shanghai, China — As one of the biggest annual trade exhibitions in China, the 3rd China International Import Expo (CIIE) attracts large international and domestic enterprises and businessmen from every province in China and across every industry to the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC).
To mitigate the risk of COVID-19 infection, the CIIE organizers have put in place a robust set of plans to ensure the health and safety of attendees, including social distancing and remote conferencing measures, as well as an increased section for public health products and exhibitions.
In the fight against COVID-19 infection risk, VeChain, together with DNV GL’s My Care methodology will be powering InterContinental Shanghai Hongqiao NECC, the only luxury hotel located within National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC).

VeChain and DNV GL’s My Care Combats COVID-19 Infection Risk
In the previous CIIE Expo in 2019, VeChain, together with ASI Group and DNV GL announced Foodgates, a cross-continental logistics and trades solution powered by VeChain, which saw President Xi Jinping of China as well as President Emmanuel Macron enjoying premium beef tracked on the VeChainThor Blockchain.
This year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, a record number of domestic and international companies are attending the CIIE in November. As a large number of guests will be visiting the NECC and CIIE, there is a need for hotel and accommodation facilities to be properly secured against COVID-19 infection risk.
In particular, hotels must have a robust standard operating procedure (SOP) based on certified standards and risk management methodologies.
On May 20 2020, VeChain’s strategic partner DNV GL released the VeChain blockchain-enabled infection risk management methodology My Care, which aims to help companies assess, manage and mitigate infection risk to build stakeholder trust. It has been used by profiled players in the hotel industry, including Hongqiao State Guest Hotel, Suzhou Qingshan Hotel, and ITC Hotels (India).
Powered by VeChain ToolChain™, My Care enables these hotels to present immutable and trustworthy information stored on the VeChainThor Blockchain, including the verified infection risk management readiness report issued by DNV GL.
VeChain Technology Assists The Safety of CIIE and InterContinental Shanghai Hongqiao NECC Guests
InterContinental Shanghai Hongqiao NECC has become the first hotel in the InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (IHG) to have its infection risk management measures verified under the My Care methodology. The verification contributes to the world-class reputation of the hotel, which is stored safely and permanently on VeChainThor Blockchain, bringing more trust for attendees to CIIE.

Mr. Christoph Hoeflich, General Manager of InterContinental Shanghai Hongqiao NECC, “To provide our guests with a safe and secure stay has always been the cornerstone of our service. The verification of DNV GL stored on VeChainThor blockchain further proves the effectiveness of our efforts in infection risk management. With the countdown to the opening of the 3rd CIIE now underway, we are also committed to implementing assured prevention to build confidence for our guests.”
Since the announcement of VeChain and DNV GL’s strategic partnership in January 2018, the collaboration between VeChain and DNV GL has been progressively promoting the adoption of blockchain. By using VeChain ToolChain™, DNV GL took the first step in May 2019 to develop its My Story™, a digital assurance solution that aims to track each stage of a product’s manufacturing cycle with the use of blockchain technology. Based on its success, My Care has been developed to assess, manage and mitigate infection risk in management processes.
George Kang, Senior Vice President of DNV GL Group, said, “The verification is not only a paper proof. My Care’s suite of independent assessment services is designed to help businesses reassure stakeholders that they have put infection risk management measures in place and show it to their customers with great confidence.”
Sunny Lu, co-founder and CEO of VeChain, said, “As the world’s leading enterprise-friendly blockchain platform, VeChain is the pioneer of real-world business applications. We are happy that our technology is able to assist in the fight against COVID-19 to reassure hotel guests of their safety. With VeChain ToolChain™, we have great confidence to provide standardized and trustworthy blockchain toolkits for enterprise users to reach their own business goals.”
As the demand for efficient infection risk management dramatically increased in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, blockchain-enabled infection risk management is becoming the ideal solution to address industry-specific implications for hotels. VeChain will seize the opportunity to enhance our collaboration with DNV GL and develop more offerings to serve their clients worldwide.
